[Call for Applications] NTU 8th 3MT|Invitation for Your Graduate Students to Participate (Including Presentation Strategies Workshop)

Dear Sir/Madam,

The NTU Academic Writing Education Center (AWEC) is pleased to announce that the 8th Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Presentation Competition will be held in 2025. The event continues our mission of fostering a positive academic climate of intellectual scholarship in Taiwan and strengthening graduate students’ interdisciplinary communication skills. We invite your support in publicizing the event and warmly welcome graduate students to participate in the competition and attend the finals.

The Three-Minute Thesis Competition (3MT@NTU), an international research communication event, founded by the University of Queensland, Australia, has become a globally influential research communication event. With over 900 universities across more than 85 countries, including such prestigious institutions as the University of Cambridge, NYU, the University of Hong Kong, this event has made a significant impact and created many success stories worldwide. NTU has been authorized to host the 3MT since 2015; furthermore, starting from the 3rd 3MT@NTU, we have partnered with National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) to promote inter-university academic exchange, encouraging students to showcase their presentation communication and English-speaking skills on stage. Today, this competition has expanded to all universities across Taiwan. Winners not only receive cash prizes but also have the opportunity to represent their institutions to participate in international competition, demonstrating the excellence of Taiwan’s higher education.

This event also reflects the core value of Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Sprout Project (HESP), including “Cultivating students’ fundamental skills” and “Enhancing interdisciplinary learning environments”, at the same time, it also offers students opportunities to stay connected with the world and reinforcing international competitiveness. The 7th 3MT@NTU attracted graduate students represented a diverse range of backgrounds: 9 nationalities, 10 universities across Taiwan, and 11 disciplinary fields. This year, with the support of the NTU Center for Bilingual Education and the EMI Teaching and Learning Center, the competition will expand further with the addition of a poster competition. We sincerely invite graduate students from all universities in Taiwan to participate and spark more creative ideas and insights through concise and accessible presentations and inter-universities exchanges.

To help contestants strengthen their presentation skills, we will also host a Presentation Strategies Workshop, offering guidance on how to structure presentations clearly and refine oral delivery. The workshop has been highly recommended by past 3MT@NTU participants as an invaluable learning experience. We warmly encourage graduate students to register and take part.
